Stove and Cooktop Issues We Fix

Common failures: a gas burner won't ignite (clicking, no flame). A burner ignites but the flame is uneven or yellow instead of blue. An electric coil burner won't heat or only partially heats. A smooth-top radiant element cycles on and off correctly but with inconsistent output. An induction zone isn't recognizing the pan, or is throwing an error code. The simmer control isn't holding low temperatures. The safety cutoff is shutting the unit down unexpectedly.

Each has a clear cause. Gas-burner ignition issues are usually the spark igniter, the burner cap alignment, or moisture in the igniter housing. Electric-coil failures are usually the element itself or the burner socket (where the coil plugs in). Smooth-top failures are usually the radiant element, the surface burner switch, or the limit thermostat. Induction failures are usually the cooktop's induction generator board or a thermistor on the affected zone.

Why Won't My Gas Stove Burner Ignite?

Most “burner won't light” calls trace to one of four causes. The spark igniter has burned out (you can usually hear that clicking has stopped or changed pitch). The burner cap is misaligned and blocking the spark gap (a quick fix that doesn't need a part). The igniter is wet from a recent spill or steam, and just needs to dry out. Or the safety thermocouple has failed and is shutting off gas to the burner.

We can usually identify which is which in 5-10 minutes on site. Igniter swaps are same-visit on every major brand. The spill-and-dry case is the fastest of all: we explain it, dry the unit out, and confirm the burner is back to normal before we leave. No charge for the explanation if that's all it was.

Why Is My Electric Stovetop Not Heating?

On a coil cooktop, the failure is usually the element itself or the burner socket. We test both with a meter. Element swaps are quick; socket replacement adds 10-15 minutes. On a smooth-top radiant cooktop, the most common cause is the radiant element, then the surface-burner switch, then the limit thermostat. Each is a same-visit repair on the major brands.

On induction, “not heating” almost always means the cooktop isn't recognizing the pan (induction needs ferromagnetic cookware). If the pan is correct, the next step is the induction generator board or the zone thermistor. Generator boards are pricier parts but still typically repairable as a same-visit job if we have it on the van or get next-day.
